  1. Choose and prepare the object. Start with something stable, observable and suitable for the capture setup. Decide which surfaces matter to the intended project.
  2. Record controlled rotation. The smartphone remains steady while the coded turntable rotates the object through a structured sequence of viewpoints.
  3. Process and inspect. Upload the capture to 3D-Scan.Online, allow the selected reconstruction path to process it, then review coverage, artifacts and usable geometry.
  4. Continue in your maker workflow. Download an appropriate available representation and move into mesh editing, CAD reference, comparison, creative modification or print preparation.

If the first result does not support the intended use, that is useful information. You may need a better-prepared object, another scan type, a complementary orientation or more downstream modeling.

A useful starting point—not a promise of finished engineering geometry

Reconstructed geometry can be valuable in several ways. A point cloud can preserve observed samples for inspection. A mesh can provide a continuous surface for visualization and editing. Either may help with creative transformation, scale reference, form comparison or planning around an existing shape.

The next step depends on what you are making. A decorative model and a load-bearing replacement part do not have the same requirements. A model that looks convincing on screen may still lack the dimensions, interfaces or tolerances needed for a functional assembly. Watertight geometry may contain filled regions that were not directly observed.

For critical fits, measure the relevant features and rebuild them deliberately. Treat the scan as evidence and reference material within the design process—not as a substitute for engineering judgment.

Choose a first object that gives the workflow a fair chance

A good first project is easier to keep stable, fits within the supported setup and remains visible throughout the rotation. Its outline separates clearly from the background, and the surfaces important to your project can actually be observed.

Plan more carefully when the object has deep recesses, undercuts, an important hidden underside, reflective or transparent regions, weak visual separation, or geometry blocked by the support surface. These factors do not all have the same solution. A different capture method may add useful evidence; another orientation may reveal hidden surfaces; some objects may remain poor candidates.

Start with the object and the intended use, then choose the simplest workflow that can record the evidence you need.

A convincing final render does not tell you how much came from capture and how much came from later editing. When evaluating an example, look for the original object, the capture method, the reconstructed point cloud or mesh, visible artifacts and the downstream steps used to reach the final outcome.

Verified examples can show what a workflow produced under documented conditions. They should help you form realistic expectations, not serve as a guarantee for every object.
